My Day: wedding memories

Jai owns Horsham’s independent fashion boutique Cuckoo

This month, we invite fashionista and owner of Horsham’s Cuckoo Boutique, Jai to share her memories of her wedding. Below she gives some advice for wedding planning and how she felt finding her dream dress.

How did you and your husband meet?

I met Adam in 2019, the good new fashion way - online! Within the first 6 months of meeting we had travelled to 3 countries together and then we plunged into a pandemic.. it was a pretty whirlwind time!

When you think about your wedding now, what feeling comes to mind first?

Contentment! We got married in May 2025, the sun was shining and everything just felt like it aligned on the day.

The sun shone on the happy couple!

What part of planning your wedding did you enjoy the most?

Coordinating a theme from our ceremony to our reception. I loved making vision boards of things we had picked and seeing it all coming together. Flowers are important to me and I worked with a really passionate local florist I knew so it was lovely to build that vision into the day.

Jai and her husband Adam’s vision came together on a beautifully sunny day complete with the flowers which were so important.

What moment from your wedding day do you remember most clearly?

Being with Adam and having time together to have our photos taken - it was a really lovely feeling to have a moment to stop and take it all in.

Was there a small or unexpected moment that meant a lot to you?

A small moment with my mum before the ceremony, as her only daughter, she was so emotional to see me ready. We have been through a lot together so it felt a treasured moment.

What made you smile or laugh the most on the day?

Probably when my hen party brought out an inappropriate reminder of the hen party that only we knew about, a planned attack on my composure.

How did you feel when you first got ready for the wedding?

Finding my dress was exactly as I anticipated. I felt that the piece I would be most drawn to would not be the typical indian wedding dress and I was right. We stumbled across a bridal boutique that was owned and run by an independent designer called Arinder Bhuller. The dress I chose was a sample piece. I would say the clincher was in the styling - the assistant stylist there was incredible and tried out different looks that I would never have tried on my own. From then on no other outfit compared. In choosing the jewellery, I chose to trust my own gut and go with statement pieces I loved, that were a little unusual, veering away from the trend at the time.

What do you appreciate most about your wedding?

How happy everyone was on the day. They all experienced the day exactly as we had hoped and have such wonderful memories of it,

What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding today?

Go with your own vision. Don’t over complicate the day by trying to please others or being influenced by what is trending. It is one day that is your day and it will go fast! Make every second about the both of you and your loved ones.

In a few words, how would you describe your wedding day?

It felt true to us. Uncomplicated, a little chaotic but relaxed and magical.

Thank you Jai for sharing these wonderful memories and beautiful photographs from your special day. You both look absolutely stunning and I can see why you fell in love with your very special gown.

We couldn’t agree more about not needing to please everyone else around you, that’s great advice for any bride coming in to see us.
